Janesce Staff Profile - September 2011

Brian Ross

I came to Janesce in September 2007 with a diverse employment background, having qualifications and experience in aviation, meteorology, aquaculture, building, small business and property. As an Adelaide Hills resident, a career change with a local company was a bonus and the fifteen minute country drive to work adds to this enjoyment.

In working at Claret Ash Farm, the Company’s production site, I have been trained in and am proficient with all operations; including cosmetic manufacturing, herb production and general farm management.

I normally make the emulsions, which are the cleansers, lotions and creams, as well as the serums. The manufacturing process provides for packaged shelf stock and bulk storage for later filling.

In the herb garden, I participate in preparing the beds, plant propagation and grow-out, harvesting and processing. The variety of farm grown herbs used in production, as extracts and essences, is broad and includes rose, lavender, chamomile and calendula.

The farm is certified as both organic and biodynamic. Organic farming removes the use of chemical fertilisers, pesticides/herbicides and strives towards being a closed system, so we do extensive composting and adopt a self-sufficient attitude toward the farm. Biodynamics goes further with soil management where both field and compost preparations are administered.

Away from work my interests include bushwalking and fitness, woodworking and construction, fishing and developing a property on Kangaroo Island.
